The NFT (non-homogeneous token) sneakers are available now, including the style-changeable Skin Vial NFT for personalization. nike's new NFT merchandise is inspired by the Nike Dunk design, which first became popular as a basketball shoe in the 1980s before becoming a skateboarding standard. Nike's acquisition of RTFKT Studios in December was critical to the manufacture of Nike Dunk Genesis CryptoKicks, given the design studio's importance as the first company to introduce digital footwear as an NFT asset.

NFT sneakers are designed to enable digitally available wearable products that can be used in virtual worlds, with a variety of styles applied through skin vials (another valuable set of NFTs). The first wave of Cr yptoKicks designer sneakers are available through RTFKT's MNLTH Ether NFTs, which were made available via free airdrop to holders of RTFKT's CloneX PFP (file photo) NFT and other NFTs released earlier this year.

At the time of writing, the series has a reserve price of 2.7 ETH on OpenSea and has over 2,600 owners and counting. The NFT sneakers were released after a series of missions were created for collectors to unlock the NFT vault. RTFKT also revealed that they will be releasing another series of missions to unlock the MNLTH 2 vault later this year. Each CryptoKicks NFT acquired is also designed to change quality based on its chosen "evolutionary path," which is a series of upgradeable options.

Nike's first ethereum NFT comes after years of the company first trying to break into the digital asset space by acquiring CryptoKicks patents and then using it as a blockchain-based system to combine digital assets with physical products.
